Each part of our own body is a kind of tool, used to do something or express our thoughts. But some people are keen to use their body as a painting tool, such as a canvas, to tell various stories about themselves. And when they start making changes to their body, this will can be considered as body modification.
Imagining the body as an empty canvas can show people’s stories or experiences of their thoughts and lives through modifications on bodies. I attempt to record the body modification in polaroid form, as it is a kind of old fashion in the past. Because of the features of instant polaroid imaging, each photo can be unique in some way, which means that the modification of each person on their own body is also unique and worthy of being remembered.
Tattoos
Body modification can be divided into two types: one is the voluntary modification, such as tattoos, ear studs etc. Unlike some of the stereotypical influences of the old days that it will be considered as negative no matter what kind of modification it is, most body modifications prefer more positive nowadays. Nowadays people get tattoos and piercings no longer because they may be gangsters, or to frighten people and arm themselves, but for good looks, for art, to explore the limits of the body, or to pursue their dreams.
Scars
Another type of body modification is involuntary modification, like a birthmark or a scar. Scars or birthmarks used to be considered as an ugly sign, however, they are now more considered to be a badge, a memory to achieve a better self, a proof of a brave mind.
